Thinking like a fact-checker instead means taking time to scan the search results for trustworthy sources to make a more informed decision on which result to open first. Watch this TikTok video created by Poynter’s MediaWise for an example of how to practice click restraint, a media literacy strategy first developed by the Stanford History Education Group. Come up with topics you would like to search, then search the topics in a search engine like Google, Bing or DuckDuckGo while practicing click restraint.
